Birds!

Birds are so interesting and there is so much to discover we are spending two weeks on the topic!! 

Also fungus. Always fungus. 

Climbing and personal growth are important too. 

Worm!! 

A rousing game of monsters played in the shrubs at Blackberry Meadow. 

We pretended to be birds in this HUGE nest and described what our eggs looked like. Mine was purple with pink spots, yellow dots, and white stripes. 

As always, deep in observation. 

Beach Day!

A day at Richmond Beach. Complete with wind, rain, low(ish) tide, sea lions, cormorants, gulls, and talk of pirates and crabs. 

Two seconds after this photo the wind picked up and smacked the seaweed in this guy's face. We laughed so hard! 

The older kiddos helped the younger write their names on drift wood. 

We ran so fast to be on the bridge for this train!

Balence is important in life. In so many ways. 

A little down time on the beach is good for everyone. 

A little workout on the beach doesn't hurt either. 

Searching and finding sea anemones. 

Eating sand. Everyone has done it. 

Arachnids Abound!!

Spider week spun tales of how spider got eight legs, a new and expanded rendition of the Itsy Bitsy Spider, as well as nature art inspired by spiders!!

Tree With a Face needed "hair". Dead Bracken fern did the trick!

Tiny mushrooms are everywhere!

As well as Western White pine cones. 

Brave foray in to the Oregon Grape. 

The newt we found hiding under a log! About six inches long, I wonder if it's the same one I found two years ago in the same area!

Log hopping is a favorite pastime for these frogs. 

Most spiders we found this week were under logs. This one was on the defensive. 

What s treat! I love leaf skeletons!

Beetles are always worth observering. 

We've never seen this show species before. 

Flashlights help us in so many ways. 

Richmond Beach Spring 2015

All three days at the beach were glorious! We had a wonderful -2 tide and two of the days beach naturalists from the Seattle aquarium were on site answering questions. Toward the end we found lost pirate treasure and divvyed up among the crew, er I mean class.

What a way to end the session!! 

To all the now kindergarteners, I am so proud of you and wish you a fantastic first year of school. You will be missed at Froggy Holler next fall. 

To all the tadpoles moving up to froglets I'm so proud of you!! I can't wait to see you in the fall running with the big kids! 

To all the Froglets and Tadpoles, you've done so well! Look at how much you've grown! See how strong you've become and how much more you can do. I can't wait to see you in the woods next fall.

I  What an exciting morning in the woods. We found the Dragon's Nest, the Tiger Trap, and an owl box!
